A downloadable tool for Windows

A free and open-source 2D game engine with Lua scripting for people like me who are overwhelmed by game engine UI. Amara2 exists in a space between a game engine and an easy-to-use game framework.

Built in C++ using SDL3, with exports to Windows and Web.

Amara2 build is currently available for Windows. Sorry to my Mac homies, I don't have a Mac :( I'll do a Mac port if I receive enough donations through my ko-fi.

For Linux clone the Github repo and run the build.sh shell script.

Features

  • Setting up a new project and running a test is easy as heck.
  • Game architecture inspired by my favorite elements of the Phaser framework, DragonRuby and the Godot Engine.
  • Minimal GUI. Rather than being an all-in-one engine, the goal is to integrate and seamlessly tie all your commonly used game dev tools together.
  • Code and asset encryption, protect your content or go without to support modding.
  • A charming pixel-art aesthetic inspired by popular indie developer tools such as Aseprite.
  • Built using SDL3, so a porting company should be able to port to any of the multitude of  platforms SDL3 supports with ease.
